A lot were upset when the new iPod Touch didn’t include a much-expected camera. Now some people wished against it as They must pay $30 a month to mantain their iPhone, while a camera just makes the iPod too much like the iPhone for free. I agree with this as I have an iPhone 3G S and have to give an arm and a leg to keep it for data I barely use, but what are ya gonna do?
Basically, after the main keynote, Steve Jobs was in an interview where an answer to a question was given that explained it all.
They asked him why, and he said that it was the “funnest iPod ever” and was made to be a great game machine. They thought that while it is free for the month, they wanted as many people to buy it as possible because of it’s great interface, and adding a camera would’ve made that impossible.
To add a whole new hardware upgrade(as well as software for use with the camera) would’ve have cost more to manufacture and develop, and for a half-successful business to take place, it would also have meant for the buyers to pay more. At the keynote, they dropped the price from $229.99 for the 8GB, it is now $199, along with adding a 64 GB model, and it would have been way more than the first price of $230 to get it if it had included the camera.
Did Apple do us a favor? Yes and no. On one hand, they did take away our camera, on the other, all they wanted for as many pockets to have an iPod Touch as possible, which would’ve been impossible had there been a camera. Do you think they were smart to do this? Leave a comment and tell me.
