Rock Your Phone are positioning themselves as a complete jailbroken package management solution, from paid to free packages. They actually list all packages from all default Cydia sources.
Opening up the main screen of Rock shows a “Rock compared to Cydia/Icy” (picture below) screen, which lists some of its big differences with the two other players in the jailbreak package management arena. Speed-wise, RockApp has done some awsome things to increase performance.
The reason Rock is so fast is that their servers watch the default repositories Packages files, and keep a current combined list at all times. Then, when you open RockApp to check for updates, instead of checking each repo’s Packages file for updates, Rock Central is checked to see what updates are new since the last time you updated, and only those changes are downloaded to your idevice. This makes Rock so much faster than all the other competitors (being cydia and icy).
Another amazing feature is called, simply “Backup”. Backup, every time you install a new package, or even open up the app, it makes a log, of every installed package on you device. This is put onto a database, with your “rock id” (email adress). So this means, that if you have to re-jailbreak, or lose all your packages for some reason, you can just press restore form backup, and Rock will re-install EVERYTHING.
You can also add custom repos, just like you would in cydia, you can add all the best repost like sinful and touch-mania! This puts it a notch above the rest, being faster, better looking, provides a backup option, and an overall much easier experience, i vote Rock one of the best things out there jailbreaking wise.
Thanks For Watching guys, dont forget to SUBSCRIBE TO THEJAILBREAKNATION, all feedback is appreciated!

I LOVE THIS… IT TOTALLY BEATS CYDIA!!! Also I have an application on my Macbook Pro for it too now. It's really nice!
October 12th, 2009 at 1:29 PM
okay okay okay, youve sold it to me!!
October 12th, 2009 at 7:48 PM
you do realize, that they are actually mostly using cydia/icy repo's?
and that there is an app called Aptbackup, which does the same as what you described as "another amazing feature" .. being not knowledgeable enough about something doesnt justify bashing and boasting about features that are as old as firmware 2.0 ..
i do agree though, that the way Cydia updates repos is slow – mainly because it is decentralized – making every repo stand for itself.. if this were configurable on cydia though, i think the issue would be easily resolved (btw. my experience with Icy is that it is much faster in updating repos..)
.. and i'm not saying it's not worth a try, i'm definetly gonna test it out more.. but some of your claims (downloads faster – how? it uses the same source over the same network ..) seem a bit unjustified..
just my two cents..

funny how the comments on this website are so heavily censored..
i posted a not so "praising" reply, and i didnt get posted, presumably because of some admin not liking it.. so unless you write "OMG I LOVE THIS, CYDIA NO MORE" you don't get posted, or what??

is using rock free
October 29th, 2009 at 1:28 PM
I tried Rock on my iPod 2g running ver 3.12. No apps would show up at all…. no what's new, nothing. I reloaded it, did recreate database…. still nothing! I installed Cydia, searched for Rock, and used Cydia to uninstall Rock. Rock sure didn't work for me! All I could do was read the articles on the first page that were praising Rock.
Cydia seems great so far.

The only way i kno how to get rock is to jailbreak using the universal blackra1n jailbreak tool. I jailbroke my iphone with it on 3.2.1 or w.e the newest os is, and i could install cydia, rock, and icy. I only installed cyd bcause i kno how to use it well.

Blackrain jailbreak on my iphone3.12 worked fine, but the rock your phone app hasn't been upgraded to work with the 3.12's yet. Last update was Aug. Any suggestions are apreciated.

You don’t have to re-jailbreak, open cydia, use the search feature, and Search RockApp. I found it only searching Rock, but it is in there as RockApp.
The repo is modmyi, so it is a default repo

Im on a 3g, 3.1.2, JB from Blackra1n, and Rock IS rocking my phone. It doesn't crash the way Cydia does on my phone, and with this JB my phone seem much, much more responsive than when I used Cydia. In general everything is much smoother and faster. DL's takes the same time, and always will, but my DL's always complete and are super easy to initiate. So far I've not had a single problem with Blackra1n or Rock. I think that maybe Saurik is just getting tired?.?

I have owned my 3G 16gb for 13 months now and this has been my experience modifying my phone:
I crashed my phone when installing both Cydia and Icy (undetermined reason) – restore.
I installed only Cydia and went about re-installing my applications/modifications and when launching Cydia it crashed again – restore.
I installed Cydia and went so slow with the application it took a few days, on and off, to install everything the way I wanted it. I never had a problem once my phone was installed and I stopped messing with Cydia and Winterboard. I forgot I had to baby Cydia by clicking and waiting 10 seconds for the screen to update and most recently tried modifying my packages and installing others. Aside from each screen being horribly slow, I clicked to “Confirm–Install” and click the button two or three times and it crashed once again. – restore
This time I’ve jailbroken I wanted to try one of the other Installers Blackra1n came with and so far, Rock has already superseded my expectations by running each page faster and smoother with detailed gui to help guide through the process (Cydia as a installer is fine, but Rock is more responsive when installing.) I didn’t like making an account, but having all of my apps logged for the future if I need to re-jailbreak, restoring everything back to normal will be easier. Yeah Cydia has an app that can restore, but the convenience of Rock is nice.
I’ve long been a fan of Cydia, but I have to say this Installer, Rock, has been everything better than the things I hated about Cydia: Faster browsing, more responsive, multitasking, hasn’t crashed when tapping more than once to be sure I hit the button.
MY THOUGHTS MAY CHANGE ABOUT ROCK
but for now, I like it far more than Cydia and even if I have to re-jailbreak, the ease of use I’ve had so far makes me inclined to use it every time in the future. I recommend everyone at least try it out.

The one nd only download side to Rock is that alot or could I say most of the apps/games on that HB (Hacked Browser) is that you need to PAY for the apps. Unlike Installous, Cydia and Icy they supply you with free apps/games!
…so why Jailbreak and then pay for your apps/games when there is another way not to…i call that good ol’ ICI (Installous, Cydia, Icy).
People who reply back to this put the numbers 69 at the end of your comment
One last thing…WOW they got an AWESOME wallpaper on ROCK :O! ONLY 0.99
*Dude buys the wallpaper
*Dude meets friend “Dude2″ next day
Dude: Look at this awesome wallpaper i got!
Dude2: I got it 2
Dude: Way worth 0.99
Dude2: What? Cydia had that wallpaper priced for free…
Dude: ZOMFG!!!

You guys are nuts paying for jailbroken apps. Even if apple never finds a way to stop jailbreaks. Every time they upgrade firmware it renders some jailbrake apps useless. And usually the developers dont run to update the app at all. So your out what ever you paid for the app. Stay with Cydia where almost all the apps are free. And if they are not you can delete them after the trial with out having all this Rock garbage left on your iphone.
January 18th, 2010 at 5:21 AM
do u have to pay for them ,or is it just for a few that have the price next to it. cause some that i got did not say free trial it just let me instantly download
January 22nd, 2010 at 7:40 PM
i had it but never used now i will

ROCK completely BRICKED my phone! Major thumbs down to Rock. Highly not recommended! It said I had 7 software updates, I installed them, rebooted and nothing. The iphone wont boot. 5 to 10 seconds after the apple logo appears it crashes. I cant connect it to a computer, cant connect it to itunes and cant restore from backup. I have has to factory reset it (hold down both buttons, release top after 10 seconds).
I wont use rock again.
May 3rd, 2010 at 8:55 PM
that doesn't really have anything to do with rock, it has a lot more to do with installing updates without checking to see what they actually are, and if there are bugs.
May 3rd, 2010 at 9:53 PM
This just happened to my phone too, I think it is a bug, but I've never seen it do that before…One of the updates said "iphone firmware sbin" which looked suspicious. I tried to get on the rockyourphone website and it's not loading. I suspect they either got hacked or there are tons of other people having the same problem trying to find an answer. It worked great up until today though…
May 5th, 2010 at 2:27 PM
I have had my phone jailbroke for months now and today it is bricked. I saw an update on ROCK for the ROCK software and i updated after that phone was bricked. i cant get in DFU mode or get on the phone at all apple logo thats it. I am boned.
May 5th, 2010 at 10:08 PM
Do the DFU, but keep holding the home key down, may take over a minute maybe even two, but will eventually go into DFU.
May 11th, 2010 at 2:56 PM
how do you use it?
May 12th, 2010 at 1:07 AM
To get rock download Blackra1n from http://blackra1n.com/ and download the file if you have a PC or a Mac. Open up the file and connect your ipod to your computer and click the "make it ra1n" button and let the jailbreak take place. You need OS 3.1.2 for this jailbreak.
May 13th, 2010 at 1:20 PM
shut up
May 14th, 2010 at 5:05 PM
hes right though lol
May 25th, 2010 at 11:27 AM
Guys, I suggest you don't use Rock. The coding is way worse t h an Cydia's, if you like increasingly slower speeds on your phone and having to restore it again and again, then sure go ahead. Cydia all the way.
June 23rd, 2010 at 11:41 PM
I was wondering if you could make a download link for the rock app so I can download it onto my computer and install it through terminal on my iPod, because latly my cydia has stuffed up and I can’t remove or download apps. Thanks if you can help
