AppleInsider reports that the same source that provided them with reliable information of the iPhone 3Gs and iPhone 4 chips is now saying that the next iPhone and iPad will have a new chip on board that “is said to offer around twice the processing power at the same clock speed.” For both devices, this would mean an overall quicker experience, and could also possibly mean the implementation of HMDI output (instead of the current VGA method). If the rumors about the next iPad’s resolution are accurate this change would be expected, if not necessary, for a much greater processing power is needed to handle high resolutions on a screen the iPad’s size. This story is further supported by MacRumors, who earlier reported that “the latest iOS 4.3 beta SDK has drivers for the new SGX543 GPU”. Personally, I would put down money on the fact that the next chip for all iDevices will indeed be “twice as fast”, it seems inevitable and necessary.
